Here’s a little article about the forthcoming anthology I’m co-editing, entitled Vanguard.

I moderated two panels at AWP in Portland, Oregon. The first was “Real Women Talk Dirty: Feminisms of Sex in Fiction,” featuring Merritt Tierce, Dr. Debra Munroe, Dr. Nalo Hopkinson, and Claire Vaye Watkins. Unfortunately, Dr. Maryann Mohanraj could not join us, as her flight was cancelled. But here are some shots:

The second panel was “Poetry at the Intersections: Queer and Of-Color Poets on Sex,” featuring Dr. Timothy Liu, Randall Mann, Rickey Laurentiis, and francine j. harris. Live vicariously:

Very happy to say that my flash piece, “Moving Out,” has won the 1000-Below contest at Midway Journal. You can check the story out here.

Kate has just become the flash fiction/nonfiction editor for Opossum: A Literary Marsupial. The journal focuses on the intersection of literature and music. And if you have any work under 1000 words, Opossum pays one hundred dollars for flash. Submit now!

Kate has won the 2017 Wilda Hearne Flash Fiction Award for her piece, “Story, Baby.” The prize comes with $500 dollars spending money, and publication in Big Muddy. Here’s the announcement.

A joyous time was had by all at the Opossum Lit crawl event in Portland, Oregon. The all-lady lineup featured Elena Passarello, Kate, Rebecca Jean Olson, Natassja Schiel, and Shayla Lawson.

Today Kate had the pleasure to read alongside her Texas Tech peers Scott Morris, Chen Chen, and Jasmine V. Bailey at the inaugural Lubbock Book Festival.

Fiction International 50: Fool has just been published. It features a  flash story by Kate, entitled “How I Met My Second Husband”, along with many other swell pieces. You can order it here. Many thanks to the team at Fiction International!

I had a ball at the Sewanee Writer’s Conference. Many thanks to my Bausch-Harun workshop buddies (pictured here) and whomever was responsible for selecting me as a Tennessee Williams scholar. It was humbling to be around such generous, talented people.
